BW Year End

Hello BW Team!

Spring is here and the season is ending. A group of athletes just competed in the last race at Mt Bachelor this weekend- enjoying sun and excellent snow to finish out the ski season. In looking back over the winter, the Buddy Werner team had an excellent season! It was great to see the athletes and parents all come together- to support one another, to bring new families and racers into the group and to build our BW team. There was great skiing, racing, a strong work ethic and teamwork! Great work by all TAS Buddy Werner athletes!

With the hard work came the awards- the number of medals and trophies that TAS BW athletes won throughout this season was incredible! TAS was on the podium constantly! Apple Cup, Dave Kincaid Memorial, Wild Katz, Alpental I-90 and Bantum Cup races saw so many TAS racers taking home hardware! Plus, TAS racers took home overall and team awards.

Overall and Team Trophies:

Otto VanderHoef - Dave Kincaid Memorial Boys Overall Champion

The Buddy Werner Championship Team:

Otto VanderHoef, Matthew McBurney, Max Paek, Micah Davis, Ollie Day, Art Schoenstadt, Erik Kvietkus

Emma Ireton, Brynne Wicklund, Aili Moore, Anna Moscovici, Madeleine Truffat, Carina Ashe, Rose Didcock

TAS Boys 3rd Place Overall
TAS BWC Team 5th Place Overall

Well done and great skiing TAS BW!

Looking ahead:

One date to remember!! May 3rd from 5-8pm! This is our annual year-end TAS Awards Banquet- please join us for a potluck at the Mercer Island Community Center.

Congratulations to everyone on a great ski season!

Happy summer! ~Rory

BW Training and Races 2/22-2/28

Hello BW Team!

Lot's of snow on the hill- followed by lot's of rain! Alpental is closed tomorrow- BW training is cancelled for 2/22. Next week is the last mid-week BW training; due to the Alpental Night Slalom on Wednesday 2/29, BW training will be held on Tuesday 2/28- more information later.  The Alpental Night Slalom would be a great event for all BW racers to come watch and cheer on our junior team.

BW Races:

I've added the Alpental I-90 to the race list.

Wild Katz - Please register- the race is this weekend.

Please meet coaches outside of the racer lodge at 8:30am- please be on-time and ready to ski!

Alpental I-90 - Please register.

**Athletes must have USSA license which may be purchased at registration.

Required- medical insurance information, including policy number and phone number OR signed USSA medical insurance waiver, a Parent or Legal Guardian signature and personal check payable to USSA or bankcard information.

May Day Race- Mt Bachelor April 20-22 Plan ahead- this is a fantastic race and all BW are encouraged to do all events -alpine,nordic and jumping.
Evan and Jimmy will be coaching.

Additional Notes:

Please be on time to training and be prepared!  Groups are determined and plans set on those who show up- and are ready to ski. It seems that each Wednesday and weekend more are showing up later and not prepared (ie. forgetting their pass, poles, etc). This is becoming a problem and is not fair to those athletes on-time and ready to ski.  As a result, those late and/or not ready will have two options- one is to meet the team on the hill and inspect the training course by ascent...hike from the bottom of the course to the top- or to not train with the team that day; this includes returning from lunch late or unprepared.  Our hope is to increase the athletes responsibility- but this also puts responsibility onto the parents for arriving at the hill with enough time for their kids to get ready.

In addition, we ask that if athletes will be leaving early or not returning to training after lunch that they inform the coach leading their group. Throughout the season, many athletes have left without letting coaches know and this creates a safety concern.  As well, it is important that the athletes understand the importance of staying with the group; on free-ski days, purposefully skiing off from the team is not acceptable as then the group spends a good portion of their time looking for that team member.  The responsibility needs to be with each athlete to listen to the plan and meet at the designated places.

Thanks for your understanding.
